Transforming Outdoor Spaces: The Burnick’s Residential Landscaping Project
At GreenWorx180, we pride ourselves on turning outdoor spaces into stunning sanctuaries. Recently, we had the pleasure of completing a comprehensive landscaping transformation for the Burnick family in Matthews, NC. Their vision for a functional yet beautiful backyard led to a project that incorporated elements of drainage, greenery, and design that we’re thrilled to showcase.
The Challenge
The Burnick’s backyard posed several challenges. The area around their pool needed better drainage to prevent water pooling, and they wanted to enhance the overall aesthetic of their outdoor space. Privacy was also a priority, as well as creating a cohesive flow between the pool, creek bed, and surrounding garden.
The Solution: A Multi-Faceted Approach
Our team tackled this transformation with a blend of practical landscaping solutions and design expertise. Here’s what we implemented:
1. Improved Drainage
To address water pooling around the pool, we installed two French drains. These efficient drainage systems redirect water away from the pool area, ensuring a dry and safe environment while preventing potential water damage.
2. Garden Enhancements
Five yards of garden mix were added to enrich the soil and provide a fertile base for planting.
Tennessee fieldstone garden boulders were strategically placed along the creek bed to create a natural, rustic look while supporting soil integrity and controlling erosion.
3. Thoughtful Planting
We selected a variety of plants to enhance the backyard’s beauty and functionality:
Star anise and privacy shrubs were planted for their dense foliage and fragrant appeal, creating a secluded and serene environment.
15-gallon tea olives were incorporated as privacy shrubs. These evergreen beauties not only shield the space but also release a delightful scent.
1-gallon Guara (Star Night) plants added a touch of delicate charm, with their whimsical blooms creating movement and interest.
4. Mulching and Sod Installation
We used double-hammer mulch to retain soil moisture, prevent weeds, and provide a polished look to the garden beds.
Zoysia sod was laid down to create a lush, green lawn. Known for its durability and soft texture, Zoysia was the perfect choice for this family-friendly yard.
5. Hardscape Features
Irregular flagstone pavers were installed to create a unique and durable walkway that seamlessly connects the pool area to other parts of the yard.
The Results
The Burnick family’s backyard is now a harmonious blend of beauty and functionality. The French drain ensures the pool area stays dry, the lush greenery and vibrant flowers enhance the landscape’s appeal, and the strategically placed hardscape elements tie everything together. The addition of privacy shrubs and tea olives has transformed the yard into a private oasis.
